Twenty Weeks

written March 2nd

how far along: 20 weeks and 5 days! over halfway there!

size of baby: the What to Expect app says as big as a mango. none of the photo apps had that option, so I went with can of soda haha.

maternity clothes: living in them and dresses.

symptoms: stuff that comes with a growing belly (can’t bend over, swelling, barely making it to the bathroom on time)

cravings/aversions: I’ve been wanting fresh, non-heavy things. and Hawaiian pizza (the opposite of fresh and non-heavy haha). Hawaiian pizza was finally acquired!

movement: NO! had an appointment with my doctor and she said it’s totally normal. said she didn’t feel hers until 22 weeks, bff said 21, the friend who felt hers at 18 said lots of her coworkers didn’t feel it until 25.

sleep: can’t get enough, want more.

gender: girl

looking forward to: MOVEMENT. I know I keep saying it, but READY. also ready to see the doctor more regularly. recent happenings have me wanting all the assurance I can get.

worries: I slipped down a hill on Wednesday and scraped my knees up pretty bad and just jarred my body a little. I was panicked that it hurt the baby, but when I called the on-call doctor he assured me that as long as I didn’t hit my stomach and wasn’t experiencing bleeding or abdominal pain that I was okay. everything seems fine!

milestones: 20 WEEKS! we are over half way there which is CRAZY!

best moment this week: OUR NEPHEW WAS BORN! he came 4 weeks early, but he and mom are doing GREAT! it was very surreal being in the delivery room with my sister-in-law and realizing I’d be doing the same thing in a few short months!

outfit: non-maternity swing tee from Belk’s New Directions plus brand. non-maternity Danskin plus yoga legging pants from Walmart.com.

Nineteen Weeks

written February 22rd

how far along: 19 weeks and 4 days.

size of baby: 11 ounces according to the doctor! tomato according to the app, but she’s measuring 4 days ahead.

maternity clothes: its spring(ish)! this means I can wear all my dresses again, most of which still work with the pregnant belly. but of course still loving the official maternity clothes too.

symptoms: I experienced some swelling this weekend and now on and off if I don’t drink enough water. emotions are also high. backaches happen easier. but I really can’t complain.

cravings/aversions: nothing to speak of

movement: I mentioned that I thought I felt her, but after seeing how low she is on the ultrasound I don’t know if I did. what I felt was high. I could SEE her kicking on the ultrasound, but felt nothing!

sleep: I’ve been taking Benadryl at night to dry up whatever is making me cough, so that’s resulted in good sleep.

gender: baby girl!

looking forward to: MOVEMENT! I know everyone says I’ll feel it soon enough, but soon enough can’t come soon enough.

worries: our anatomy scan with the specialist really quieted some of my fears!

milestones: anatomy scan! that was a big one to get under our belts.

best moment this week: seeing baby girl move so much on the scan even though I couldn’t feel it. we also got a few smocked things at Little Feet consignment which was fun!

outfit: non-maternity dress from one of Belk’s plus brands.

Eighteen Weeks

written February 16th

how far along: 18 weeks and 5 days

size of baby: sweet potato. 5.5 inches and 5 ounces. (according to the What to Expect app)

maternity clothes: having to force myself not to wear only the super soft and comfy maternity stuff haha, because again, plenty of my other shirts fit!

my one complaint about maternity clothes is that the plus size women jeans only come in 3 sizes. one is too small for me and one is too big. so I feel frumpy in my jeans sometimes and have to wash them to shrink them everytime I wear them (and who washes jeans everything they were them??).

symptoms: I’ve been warned many times about coughing and accidentally peeing but it hadn’t happened to me yet. well, it finally did (tmi I’m sure, but whatevs). and the cough is back, so this is unfortunate and I’m scared every time I cough haha.

also my back is hurting more and more. I think a chiropractor might be in my future.

cravings/aversions: seafood, especially shrimp, always sounds good. and who can afford to eat shrimp often? haha.

I also can’t stop thinking of Hawaiian pizza, which I haven’t had in years.

movement: I really really think I felt her, but I just can’t be sure! I’m going to pay attention at the next ultrasound to when she moves and see if I feel it so I know what it feels like (sister-in-law suggestion).

sleep: not terrible, just harder to fall back asleep after bathroom breaks. and I don’t always feel rested when I wake up.

gender: GIRL. our sweet Magnolia Joyce.

looking forward to: anatomy scan! it’s Monday. since we are going to a specialist (since I’m almost 35) the equipment is the best of the best and we should get a better picture of her! and again, ready to start feeling the kicks.

worries: I’m going to be mildly worried until after that scan, but again no reason to be worried.

milestones: we bought our first girl specific purchase! William picked out a unicorn book that was sweet and I saw a little unicorn headband + tutu that just made sense to get. we also bought the paint for the nursery!

best moment this week: our video continues to be viral which is just insane! it finally slowed down in the last two days, but 3.5 MILLION views. CRAZY! and people have been so sweet for the most part. it just makes us feel like our little girl is so special.

also, on the night that we bought the book, William read it to her. the app told us she can finally hear this week, and we’ve been saying when she can we want to start reading to her. it was such a sweet, special moment.

ALSO, we got FOUR boxes of hand me downs from my sister-in-law and brother-in-law from our niece’s baby stuff! it was so fun to go through the boxes with them and hear all the stories about stuff.

and I forgot to mention previously that at the gender reveal we got some hand me downs from my cousin and her baby Maddie!

Magnolia Joyce already has a TON of clothes and all we’ve bought her is the unicorn accessories!

outfit: maternity dress from PinkBlush Maternity Plus.

Seventeen Weeks

written on February 9th

how far along: 17 weeks and 5 days

size of baby: what to expect app said turnip, but all the photo editing apps said onion. roughly 5 inches and 5 ounces.

maternity clothes: I’d wear them every day if it didn’t make sense to keep wearing the other stuff I have that also still fits. so comfy! and the belly is just a growing.

symptoms: growing belly, the cough is back, bathroom issues, lots of night bathroom breaks, but all in all still a very good pregnancy.

cravings/aversions: nothing to speak of. I definitely currently don’t like pulled pork though, but I didn’t really love it before.

movement: I don’t think so, but sometimes I think I do, but one thing for sure is I AM READY!

sleep: I’ve been waking up a bit more than normal and it’s taking a little longer to fall asleep, but nothing too terrible.

gender: IT’S A GIRL! (wrote a blog post about the gender reveal earlier this week)

looking forward to: our anatomy scan is on 2/19. ready to have that under our belts. also ready to feel our baby girl move!

worries: I always get worried before ultrasounds, and particularly the anatomy one. but no reasons to worry so far!

milestones: again I say, IT’S A GIRL! also our furniture is mostly painted, which is exciting!

best moment this week: our gender reveal was a blast! and our gender reveal video kind of went viral, what the heck?

outfit: maternity dress from PinkBlush Maternity Plus.

It’s a…

We found out what our baby was on 1/29 and had a gender reveal for our family and close friends on 2/3! If you know us, you know we are pretty obsessed with Harry Potter. A Harry Potter gender reveal was the only option!

Invite

In anticipation of the event, we did a few social media polls. The results were pretty even.

I gathered all of our Harry Potter paraphernalia to decorate the table and kept it simple with just some cupcakes with our house flags. The only thing we had to purchase was cupcakes, cupcake flags, and a cauldron.

The potion ingredients were generously donated by my friend who makes Betty Pearl’s bath bombs.

Potion

(Logistics of the gender reveal “potion”: She gave us bath bomb fizzy powder in both colors. We used the color we didn’t need to practice. She also gave us a bag of white fizzy powder. In the cauldron (purchased on Amazon), we poured the appropriate color and then covered it with the white powder so no one could look in and spoil the surprise. Liquid Luck and Love Potion were just water. The water activated the fizz and it eventually bubbled over the more we poured.)

Pause and CLICK HERE before you keep scrolling to watch this amazing video that my cousin Zack and his wife Alyssa made for us for the big reveal!

Sixteen Weeks

written February 2nd

how far along: 16 weeks and 5 days

size of baby: avocado! my fav. 4-5 inches. 3-5 ounces.

maternity clothes: maternity jeans are life! I now have another pair (and a dress and a few other things) thanks to my wonderful mother-in-law treating me to more maternity clothes last weekend!

symptoms: this week has been fantastic in comparison to last. my belly is ever growing though (but so far I’ve only gained 2 lbs, woohoo!)

cravings/aversions: it took a little bit to like/want food again after that bug! appetite is normal now but been craving the taste of coffee A LOT this week. must buy decaf this weekend!

movement: still nothing! visibly saw our little bit moving on the ultrasound though. so I know there is movement, I just don’t feel it yet.

sleep: still not having issues with sleep other than always wanting more than I get haha.

gender: we found out this week (Monday 1/29)! but my lips are sealed until after our gender reveal Saturday and after William’s work gender reveal on Tuesday.

looking forward to: the gender reveal! and feeling the baby move.

worries: worries are mostly squashed for now since we saw our baby this week and they said all looked good. they scheduled our anatomy scan for 2/19, so I’m anxious about that but have peace.

milestones: WE GOT LOTS OF BABY STUFF! last weekend my sister-in-law and brother-in-law gave us a very generous amount of money to spend on the baby. we all (plus in-laws) went to a discount store and we were able to get so much! the car seat stroller combo, lots of crib sheets, boppy covers, a nursing cover, and much more!

best moment this week: KNOWING OUR BABY’S NAME! it just made everything feel so much more real to know if he or she was a he or she.

outfit: maternity dress from Motherhood Maternity plus. my wonderful mother-in-law bought me a few more maternity clothes last weekend too, including this dress!

Other posts: Finding Out | Four Weeks | Five Weeks | Six Weeks | Seven Weeks | Eight Weeks | Nine Weeks | Ten Weeks | Eleven Weeks | Twelve Weeks | Thirteen Weeks | Fourteen Weeks | Fifteen Weeks

Fifteen Weeks

written January 26th

how far along: 15 weeks and 5 days

size of baby: navel orange, 4.5 inches, 2-3 ounces (according to the What to Expect app)

maternity clothes: I HAVE ACQUIRED MATERNITY JEANS! I went to Motherhood Maternity just so I could see what my size was there to order online and they had a pair of plus maternity skinny jeans on sale in my size. regularly $50 and I got them for $20! everyone says how amazing maternity jeans are and y’all, they are not lying! I don’t know how I’ll ever go back to wearing regular jeans. they are truly the most comfortable!

the weather did warm up a little, so I got to wear one of my new shirts too, which honestly just looks like shirts I already wore pre-pregnancy. flowy is in y’all, please be in forever! looking forward to debuting one of the maternity dresses soon at our gender reveal!

also, I’m not ashamed to say I’ve happily been pretending my skinny leg yoga pants are real black pants for work and no one notices or cares! since I wear them often and they are so comfy I ordered more and sized up (pre-pregnancy ones were getting a little clingy). 2 pair for $25 (walmart.com Danskin brand)! pumping the breaks on the maternity clothes purchases for now. I think I’m set for spring.

symptoms: not a pregnancy symptom, but it definitely affected my whole week… a stomach bug got me! I can no longer say I haven’t thrown up while pregnant (even if it wasn’t because of pregnancy). it was a ROUGH week! the triage nurse got my doctor to call in Phenergan which helped tremendously. my stomach still doesn’t do well unless the food is bland, but no throwing up or fever since Tuesday!

I still occasionally have round ligament pains.

and WHOA the emotions this week! two different friends shared posts about motherhood and how hard it is (or in my case how hard it’s going to be) but to cherish every moment because babies don’t keep and I’m SO sad already that little baby Twiner is going to grow up. I’m sobbing again just typing this. I’m so ready to be a parent with William, but already so sad about how quickly our baby is going to grow up.

cravings/aversions: if it’s not bananas, plain rice with a little butter and salt and pepper, fruit popsicles, ginger ale, Gatorade, white grape juice, or plain biscuits it hasn’t been on my radar this week.

however, I do know what I don’t want to eat again for a REALLY long time… chili.

(ps. I wish our bodies would signal us right before we eat the last meal before the stomach bug hits so we could eat something bland OR not eat at all…)

movement: I felt a lot of stomach things this week (thanks, stomach bug) and since my stomach was so empty I kind of maybe think I felt something, but probably not yet. SOON!

grow little baby grow so I can feel you move!

sleep: this week is just a wash for everything really thanks to that dang bug. rough nights of sleep around our house this week. that Phenergan sleep though…

gender: still no clue. William is convinced it’s a girl now because he wants a boy so badly. in the gender reveal Facebook group poll girl is winning 25 to 18. most old wives tales point to a boy but some to a girl:

cravings – mostly salty, don’t enjoy sweets as much as I normally do (boy)
morning sickness – no (boy)
headaches – no (boy)
carrying – no idea haha, I’m chubby, so it’s hard to say?
sleeping side – back 99% of the time (my doctor said I could!), but if it’s a side left feels better (boy)
mood – happy, not moody or overly emotional (boy)
balance – stable, not normal for me haha (girl)
baby’s heart – over 140 (girl)
Chinese calendar – girl

we should know Monday!!

looking forward to: MONDAY! even if we don’t find out, I’m ready to see/hear the baby and know that he or she is still doing well.

worries: stomach bug + pregnancy = WORRY. every pain (and there were lots) had me concerned about the baby. lots of extra whispered prayers this week.

my worry also increases right before each visit, but I have peace and believe little Baby T is doing great.

milestones: we bought a crib! a friend of a friend was selling it on Facebook, and it was in great condition and sold by trusted people.

and they gave me a boppy for free!

best moment this week: not being sick anymore? it was also fun to finalize our gender reveal plans and invite people and see their excitement.

I also co-hosted a wedding shower at my house last weekend for some dear friends which was a blast because:

we love having people over.

I love using all my wedding gift serving pieces and remembering who gave them to us.

I love celebrating my friends.

AND there were several moms of little ones there and we had good talks about pregnancy and motherhood and where to buy cheap baby clothes and other fun things like that (while most of the boys sat on our deck and smoked pipes).

I actually fixed my hair before taking the picture this week (not for the picture, luncheon at work today) so I decided to include my face. I’m usually half asleep and my hair usually looks terrible so I crop it out, but I’ll try to do better! outfit: non-maternity long sleeve swing tunic top from Walmart.com MOA brand. non-maternity work pants from Belk’s Kim Rogers plus brand.

Fourteen Weeks

(written January 19th)

outfit: non-maternity tunic top from James & Leight. non-maternity ponte pants from Belk’s Crown & Ivy plus brand. leopard scarf from James & Leigh.

how far along: 14 weeks and 5 days

size of baby: a big lemon (FYI, I use the What to Expect app, and that’s where the sizes come from)

maternity clothes: my first maternity clothes came in! unfortunately, most of the stuff I ordered is spring and summer-y since that’s when I’ll get bigger. it’s been the coldest it’s ever been here this week, so I haven’t gotten to wear them. BUT because I live in Mississippi (classic southern state that can experience all four seasons in a week), though the high was in the 20s earlier this week and we had snow and ice, the high for Sunday is 70. so I’ll be wearing them soon! I tried them all on, and they fit and are so soft and cozy. also, I tried to wear my normal jeans last weekend… I got them on and buttoned, and they fit, but they were VERY uncomfortable and tight, and I only lasted about 2 hours (long enough to see the movie we were seeing, Darkest Hour, which was really great by the way!) pregnancy jeans are next on the purchase list for sure!

symptoms: tooth brushing has been better! if I put less toothpaste on the brush and spit often (tmi gross?) and rinse out my mouth halfway between brushing and rinse my toothbrush before I brush my tongue (and just do that very briefly), it’s better! this week’s new symptom is round ligament pain. my fellow pregnant friend asked me Sunday if I was experiencing it. at the time I wasn’t and then all of a sudden two days later it hit! it happened late at night first, and I was worried. I made William pray for the baby before bed. then the next morning I remember how my friend described the round ligament pain and googled it and was certain that was what it was. I called the triage nurse at my doctor’s office to verify, and she agreed. NOT FUN! hurts super low and when I cough, sneeze, move certain ways, AND when I used the bathroom.

cravings/aversions: greasy pizza continues to be an aversion. and I normally like cabbage, but after cooking it last week and the smell, I can’t do cabbage right now. funny/embarrassing craving story… I have been reading the What to Expect book on and off. I finally picked it back up last week and was reading about what is best to eat and the daily dozen categories pregnant women should eat from. of course it says we should eat fish weekly, omega 3s, etc. well, after that for some crazy reason I couldn’t stop thinking about fish sticks… I probably haven’t had fish sticks in 10 years. not to mention, I’m 100% certain fish sticks don’t count as the fish they were suggesting I consume haha. but I bought fish sticks and William was a trooper and ate them too (and actually prepared them for us). they weren’t bad, but they weren’t as amazing as I thought they sounded haha.

movement: none yet, SO READY! my friend four weeks ahead of me said she just started feeling movement last week and most people say around 18 weeks or so. maybe, hopefully in a few weeks!

sleep: no issues other than coughing. I can go a whole day without coughing but somehow when it’s time for bed it comes back! therefore, I have to sit pretty much straight up to actually fall asleep.

gender: no hunches or feelings, still hoping for a boy for William, but just ready to know! SO SOON (10 days!).

looking forward to: knowing if our little he or she is a he or she! and getting the nursery going.

worries: worries have been calmer this week. and even though the round ligament pains had me worried something was wrong at first, they also brought me some weird comfort knowing experiencing a typical pregnancy symptom probably meant everything was going well. also worried they won’t be able to see the baby’s gender at the early gender scan. hoping!

milestones: BYE FIRST TRIMESTER! being 14 weeks means I’m officially in the second trimester! just crossing that milestone brings another level of comfort too.

best moment this week: can 1 ½ snow days + MLK day holiday count?? lots of relaxing and resting and quality time and British royals (we finished The Crown season 2 and then decided to watch documentaries on the royals). it was lovely.

Thirteen Weeks

written January 11th

how far along: 13 weeks and 4 days

size of baby: peach

maternity clothes: not-so-patiently awaiting the arrival of my first maternity clothes ordered from Pink Blush! they were supposed to be here yesterday. tracking info says it’s been in jackson since yesterday. we’ll see…

symptoms: just toothbrushing annoyances. and supersonic smell of all the bad things (why doesn’t supersonic smell the good things?!)

cravings/aversions: all the king cake! a friend mentioned spaghetti and then I really wanted that but was invited over for lasagna and it hit the spot! also, I’m not normally an ice cream/milkshake person. especially milkshakes, I rarely want them. I’ve wanted them a lot the last couple of months. the last two mornings I’ve made a healthy fake milkshake (2 frozen bananas + 1 ¼ cup of vanilla almond milk + 1 tablespoon of vanilla blended in the blender) and it really hit the spot! free and WAY less calories!

movement: I thought I felt something one night but I think I just imagined it.

sleep: mostly good but was kind of restless for seemingly no reason the night before last.

gender: literally zero hunches. I don’t know what people “feel” when they have a feeling that they know what it is, but whatever it is I don’t feel it.

looking forward to: seeing the baby again! and feeling movement. and making the room that will be the nursery an actual nursery. we have a long way to go: painting the room, painting furniture, finding new places for all the stuff in the closet that had become the home for everything that didn’t have a home, and getting a crib and all that fun stuff.

worries: fears have jumped back up this week. I think it’s mainly a lack of consistent Jesus time. having that intimate set apart time keeps me grounded and hopeful and trusting and filled with faith. so irrationally worried about miscarriage and pregnancy complications and delivery complications and the like this week! Trying to take my thoughts captive, fill my ears with praise music, and pray often. (also not helpful is the fact that I read way too far into a miscarriage blog post a blogger I like posted.)

milestones: I created our registries this week! that was fun and important. I had been keeping a list of stuff people don’t me we’d need (and stuff people said we wouldn’t actually need) and decided why not use the list to go ahead and start registries. Target, Babies R Us, and Amazon. same stuff on all three basically. (thank you Jesus for the ability to register online, doing that in the store would have been stressful.) also, I’ve gotten better at drinking water this week! (I wasn’t drinking unhealthy things either, just wasn’t really drinking enough period.)

best moment this week: we decided to do the early gender ultrasound! so hopefully we will know what Baby T is by the end of this month!

outfit: non-maternity long sleeve hanky hem swing top from one of Belk’s plus brands. non-maternity Danskin yoga legging pants from Walmart.

Twelve Weeks

(written January 5th)

outfit: non-maternity previously more oversized than currently sweater from JCPenney’s ANA plus brand. non-maternity ponte pants from Belk’s Crown & Ivy plus brand.

how far along: 12 weeks and 5 days

size of baby: plum

maternity clothes: scared to try the jeans on again… pregnancy jeans are definitely in the near future. also, an online boutique that has plus maternity had a huge sale yesterday and William said I could buy some AND my mother-in-law bought me some too! so I have no officially bought (not worn) my first maternity clothes. stay tuned.

symptoms: I joked with my doctor at our appointment this week that I was glad I was in the 1/3rd of women who don’t experience sickness, but sometimes wished I actually felt pregnant. I TAKE IT BACK! the last two days I have definitely felt pregnant. the toothbrushing nausea is at another level. my supersonic smell came in and I smell things I don’t want to smell and it’s terrible! I have almost thrown up twice in the last two days, but some miraculously was able to calm myself down from it both times. NO food sounds appetizing. Hubs and I had a sam’s lunch date (usually one of my favs) and all I could stomach was 1 ½ soft pretzels.

cravings/aversions: can everything be an aversion? I want nothing. well, nothing except king cake (a normal January craving for me even when I’m not pregnant).

movement: not yet, but soon? It’s crazy to me that the baby is moving (saw it on sonogram!) but I can’t feel it yet.

sleep: sleeping good!

gender: still no hunches, but we should know the last week in february and announce/have a gender reveal on March 4th.

looking forward to: this sickness spell to go away! second trimester, so close! knowing if he or she is a he or she.

worries: none currently! doctor said everything looked great.

milestones: we made our happy news public on social media! 12 week appointment. First non-internal sonogram. no more progesterone or baby aspirin (she didn’t say I had to take it, but I asked about it and she said it wouldn’t hurt anything to take it). a big week!

best moment this week: we saw our little baby’s arm move during the sonogram! and he or she looked like a baby!
